About Hosdurg

Located in God’s own country, Hosdurg, is a small yet a very important taluk in the Kasaragod District in Kerala. Sharing the borders with Kasaragod District, the other taluk of the Kasaragod District, the beautiful Kannur district on its south and the magnificent Arabian Sea on the west, Hosdurg taluk is very picturesque.


Deriving its etymology from Kannada dialect, Hosdurg means “new fort” and thus has a presence of a beautiful fort within its premises.

According to the census of 2001, Hosdurg taluk has its population density of 449,595 persons, of which 217,083 are males and 232,512 are females, thus a good sex ratio!
Coming on to the literacy rate, it is excellent and is as high as 85.82%, even more than the national average.

Malayalam is the local as well as the administrative language used. Hosdurg has a high rate of dependency population with almost 12.42 % of population being between the age group of 0 to 6 years.

The Onam sadhya, the special food prepared on the occasion of Onam, is very famous. It comprises of twelve different vegetables. The dessert, payasam, is another favorite part of Onam.

Other festivals include Vishu, the harvesting festival which is also celebrated in high spirits.

How to Reach Hosdurg?

Via Air: Bajpe international Airport, in Mangulore is the nearest airport to Hosdurg. It is at a distance of more than 100 km from Hosdurg.

Via Rail: You can reach Hosdurg via two railway stations. Kottikulam Railway Station and Kanhangad Railway Station. These are bustling railway stations. Almost all trains around this area have a stoppage here. From here you can get a taxi for Hosdurg.
